Comments and tasks

Comments turn a board from a static artefact into a conversation. Tasks add a lightweight to-do system on top.

Adding a comment

Right-click any shape, sticky note, or area of the canvas → Add comment. (Or press C with something selected.) A comment thread opens; type, hit return to send.

The comment marker stays anchored to the shape — if the shape moves, the comment moves with it. Anyone with access to the board sees the marker; clicking it expands the thread.

@mentions

Type @ inside a comment to mention a teammate or guest with access to the board. They get a notification (in-app and via email if email notifications are on for them).

@mentions work for any board collaborator — members, guests, anyone with at least Commenter access.

Threading and reactions

Replies under a comment form a thread — useful for keeping the back-and-forth scoped to one point on the canvas. React to any message with the emoji picker (the smile icon in the comment toolbar) when you want to acknowledge without typing.

Resolving comments

When a thread is done, click Resolve. The marker collapses to a subtle dot and the thread disappears from the active view. Resolved comments stay on the board — open the Comments panel and filter by Resolved to find them.

You can re-open a resolved comment at any time; the conversation continues from where it ended.

Tasks

Tasks are the actionable companion to comments. From any comment, click Convert to task — or create one from scratch with ⋯ → New task on a selected shape.

Each task carries:

  • Title and description (markdown supported).
  • Assignee — any board collaborator.
  • Status — Open, In progress, Blocked, Done.
  • Priority — Low, Medium, High, Urgent.
  • Subtasks — checkable items inside the parent task.

The task panel on the right of the canvas lists every task on the board grouped by status. Click any task to open its detail view.

Notifications

You get notified when:

  • Someone @mentions you in a comment or task.
  • Someone assigns a task to you.
  • Someone resolves a thread you started.
  • A task you're assigned to changes status.

Notification preferences live in Settings → Notifications. Email notifications are on by default; in-app notifications always fire.

Permissions

  • Commenters can add comments and tasks but cannot edit shapes.
  • Viewers can read comments but cannot post.
  • Editors and Owners can do everything, including resolving comments other people started.
