AI on the canvas
Beyond chat, MindWeave AI can generate content and place it on your board — sticky-note clusters, mind maps, organised columns, complete templated frames. Every generation is previewed first; nothing lands without your confirmation.
Where to start
Two ways to trigger a canvas generation:
- From the AI panel — describe what you want in natural language ("brainstorm 12 product names for an eco-friendly snack").
- From the toolbar — click AI → Generate for a quick prompt without opening the full panel.
Either path produces a preview on the canvas before any shapes are committed.
Generation patterns
A few patterns that work especially well:
Brainstorm clusters
"Give me 8 ideas for our Q3 marketing campaign as sticky notes."
MindWeave AI drops a cluster of stickies on the canvas. Each one is a separate sticky you can edit, recolour, or move. Click Apply to commit or Refine to iterate.
Mind maps
"Map the relationships between our product, our buyer, and our competitors."
You get a central shape with connected branches. The tree is rendered as real shapes and connectors — editable like any other content on the board.
Structured layouts
"Set up a 4-column board: Discover, Define, Develop, Deliver. Add 3 example prompts under each."
A full layout drops in — frames, labels, and the seed content. Use this when you want a templated structure that isn't in the templates library.
Expansion
Select any sticky note or shape and ask MindWeave AI to expand it. It generates 5–10 related stickies around the one you selected, anchored visually so you can see the relationship.
Affinity mapping
Pick a group of stickies (or let the AI use everything on the board), then ask: "Cluster these by theme." MindWeave AI groups stickies into themed frames with a label per cluster — useful at the synthesis step of a workshop.
Reviewing the preview
The preview shows the proposed content as faded shapes on the canvas. You can:
- Pan and zoom to look at it.
- Refine through follow-up chat ("make the columns wider", "use sage stickies instead").
- Apply to commit — the shapes become real.
- Discard to throw the preview away.
A preview never affects your board until you click Apply. You can leave a preview open, switch boards, come back, and it's still there.
Quality and limits
MindWeave AI is good at structure and at first-draft content, less good at deep domain knowledge. For technical accuracy, use it as a scaffold and edit the details yourself. For brainstorming and structure, it tends to save real time.
Plan limits on AI queries also apply to canvas generation — see Plans and pricing for daily caps per tier.
Permissions
Anyone with at least Editor access on the board can apply AI-generated content. Commenters and Viewers can generate previews and read them, but cannot commit changes to the canvas.
