Voice sessions

Voice sessions add live audio to a board. Anyone on the board can join the call; MindWeave AI can listen, transcribe, and participate aloud when invited. Voice is available on Advanced and Enterprise plans.

Starting a session

From any board on the right plan, click the Voice icon in the toolbar. A short consent dialog confirms microphone use (required once per browser); after that, the session opens and your audio joins the board.

Other people on the board see a Voice active indicator. They join with one click; the call is bound to the board, not a separate meeting room.

What you see in the session panel

  • Participants — everyone currently on the call, with mute/unmute and a "speaking" indicator when their voice is active.
  • Transcript — live captions of who said what, scrolling as people speak.
  • Ask AI — a text field that doubles as a push-to-talk control for prompts to MindWeave AI.

You can pop the panel out into a sidebar so the canvas stays the main view.

Push-to-talk with AI

Hold the microphone button (or use the push-to-talk shortcut) and speak your prompt. MindWeave AI:

  1. Transcribes what you said.
  2. Treats it as if you'd typed the same thing into the AI chat.
  3. Either responds in chat or proposes a canvas action (with the usual preview-and-confirm step).
  4. If a spoken reply is appropriate, speaks it back through your speakers.

The AI never speaks without being asked. There's no "always-on listening" — push-to-talk gates every interaction.

TIP

For most workshops the right pattern is: keep your microphone open for human-to-human conversation, hit push-to-talk only when you specifically want the AI to act.

Live transcription

The transcript captures everything spoken in the session by default. You can:

  • Pause transcription if a topic shouldn't be captured.
  • Copy the transcript at any point.
  • Save to board — drops the transcript as a frame on the canvas for the team's reference.

Transcripts are private to the board's collaborators and are never used to train external models. See Data hosting and privacy for the details.

Ending the session

Click End to leave the call. If you're the only participant, the session closes; otherwise it continues for the rest. Closing the board mid-session leaves the call gracefully — no awkward "still ringing" state.

Bandwidth and quality

Voice quality auto-adapts to your network. On flaky connections audio is prioritised over video; if both degrade the session falls back to audio-only with a notice in the panel.

Permissions

  • Editors and Owners can start voice sessions.
  • Commenters and Viewers can join existing sessions but cannot start a new one.
  • External guests can join voice sessions on the boards they're invited to (subject to your organisation's plan).
