Chat and board actions

The AI chat panel is the main way you interact with MindWeave AI inside a board. You can ask anything, request a summary, or hand off canvas work as a single instruction. This page covers both modes.

Opening the chat

Click the AI icon on the right side of any board (or press the keyboard shortcut shown in the toolbar). The panel slides in, anchored to the board you're on. The conversation persists per board — close the panel, come back tomorrow, the same thread is waiting.

The board's content is always part of the context. "What's missing here?" already knows what's on the canvas.

Asking questions

Type naturally. Some patterns that work well:

  • "Summarise this board." — Returns a tidy paragraph and a list of themes.
  • "What's missing from this retrospective?" — Compares against typical retrospective shapes and suggests sections.
  • "Cluster these sticky notes by theme." — Proposes groupings and offers to apply them.
  • "What did we agree to do next?" — Pulls out action-style notes from the canvas.

Responses stream in token-by-token so you don't wait for the full answer to start reading.

Running board actions

Some prompts trigger an action instead of a chat response. MindWeave AI recognises that you're asking it to do something on the canvas and switches modes. Common examples:

  • "Add 5 stickies for our risks section."
  • "Apply the SWOT template to the right of the current content."
  • "Group the green stickies into a frame called Decisions."
  • "Make a 3-column board: Now, Next, Later."
  • "Tidy this up — align the stickies and snap to grid."

For every action, you see a preview first — a faded representation of the changes on the canvas, plus a description in the chat. Click Apply to commit, Discard to throw it away, or Refine to iterate ("can you make those columns wider?").

TIP

Nothing gets written to your board without your explicit confirmation. You can always cancel a preview without affecting the canvas.

Multi-step actions

For larger requests ("set up a complete sprint-planning board"), MindWeave AI breaks the work into steps and shows them as a checklist. You can approve the whole plan or step-through it one at a time, accepting or skipping each step.

Conversation memory and reset

The chat keeps the conversation context across messages — follow-up "and also add..." works as you'd expect. To start fresh, click New conversation at the top of the panel. Old conversations are searchable in the chat history menu.

Voice mode

The chat panel has a microphone button. Press it to talk instead of type — see Voice sessions for the full voice flow.

Permissions

Anyone with at least Commenter access on a board can use the chat (subject to your organisation's AI quota). Only Editors and Owners can apply board actions — Commenters and Viewers can ask, preview, and copy the result manually but cannot commit changes to the canvas.
